U.S. Senator Roger Marshall and Representative Claudia Tenney have introduced the No Subsidies for Gender Transition Procedures Act. The proposed legislation would prevent taxpayer funding for gender transition procedures through Medicaid, Medicare, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the Affordable Care Act. Furthermore, the bill seeks to deny medical expense tax deductions for such procedures.

Due to its impact on the tax code and mandatory spending, Senator Marshall is advocating for the bill’s inclusion in the FY2025 budget reconciliation package. Marshall emphasized, “Americans overwhelmingly agree that hard-earned taxpayer dollars should not go toward paying for harmful gender transition procedures.”

The House version was introduced by Representative Tenney. She stated, “Taxpayers should never be forced to fund dangerous and irreversible gender transition surgeries.” Tenney highlighted the bill’s application to both adults and minors across various federal funding streams.

The legislation has the support of Senators Bill Cassidy, Mike Lee, and Pete Ricketts. Dr. Cassidy noted, “Americans don’t want tax dollars funding sex change operations for children.” Senator Lee added, “Trans ideology is anti-science, anti-truth, and anti-child,” while Senator Ricketts commented, “American tax dollars should not fund gender reassignment surgery.”

The American Principles Project, represented by President Terry Schilling, has expressed support for the bill. Schilling remarked, “Every year, the federal government subsidizes the transgender medical industry with our tax dollars, despite the vast majority of Americans opposing this horrific waste of taxpayer funding.”

The full text of the bill is available for review.
