Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas appeared on Fox Business’ The Evening Edit with Elizabeth McDonald to discuss Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s leadership. During the interview, Senator Marshall expressed his belief that Powell should resign, citing a loss of confidence from both President Trump and the American public.

“I don’t see the president firing him, but Jay Powell should resign. That’s what he should do. He’s lost the confidence of the President and the American people,” stated Senator Marshall. He criticized Powell for being late in addressing inflation issues, describing it as persistent rather than transient as initially claimed.

Marshall also commented on interest rates, noting a recent decision by Powell before an election: “Then, a month before the November election, he suddenly, without good reason, he drops the interest rate.” He argued that current economic conditions necessitate lower interest rates.

In addition to monetary policy concerns, Senator Marshall addressed financial oversight regarding renovations at the Federal Reserve headquarters. “We certainly need an inspector general or the Government Accounting Office to go in there and figure this out,” he said. Highlighting high costs associated with these renovations, he questioned their necessity given budget constraints.

The senator emphasized accountability and suggested congressional hearings might be necessary to address these expenditures effectively.
