On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas appeared on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper to discuss the rescissions package and his concerns about Congressional spending. Senator Marshall emphasized that the national debt, which stands at $37 trillion, is America’s most pressing issue.
During the interview, Senator Marshall questioned whether the Senate should follow the White House’s lead on spending matters. He stated, “I think the biggest problem that this country faces is our $37 trillion national debt, that we’re spending a trillion dollars a year on interest.” He pointed out significant fraud and waste within USAID, mentioning specific instances of financial misconduct in New Guinea and Zambia.
Senator Marshall expressed his belief that Congress has a spending problem and stressed the importance of fiscal responsibility. “Well, certainly Congress has a spending problem, and we need to address that,” he said. He called for both parties to work towards a balanced budget, highlighting the long-term threat posed by the national debt.
