U.S. Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas has introduced the Budget Reform Act of 2025, aiming to overhaul the federal budgeting process. The proposed legislation seeks to make the process more transparent, effective, and efficient in response to the national debt surpassing $36 trillion.

Senator Marshall stated, “With the U.S. national debt exceeding $36 trillion, it’s clear that the federal budgeting process is a dysfunctional mess. Congress continues to lurch from crisis to crisis without any long-term vision or accountability.” He emphasized the need for significant changes to prevent burdening future generations with unmanageable debt.

The bill aims to provide a framework for fiscal responsibility by holding key governmental bodies accountable for their spending practices. “My Budget Reform Act provides the framework for returning America to sound fiscal footing,” said Senator Marshall. He further explained that these changes would ensure taxpayer money is used appropriately and transparently.

Additionally, the legislation includes penalties for non-compliance as a measure to enforce adherence among budgetary actors. “At a minimum, this is what the American people deserve,” he asserted. Senator Marshall stressed that it is time for substantial reform with his proposal: “It’s beyond time for a fix; it’s time for the Budget Reform Act of 2025.”

Further details on specific reforms such as budget timetable adjustments are available in the full text of the legislation.
