On Monday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), appeared on Newsmax’s Wake Up America to discuss the White House’s rescissions package. The package aims to cut funding to certain organizations and address the use of the autopen in the Biden-Harris Administration.
Senator Marshall expressed optimism about passing the rescissions package this week, stating, “I think we’ll get it across the finish line. And I think it’s important to remember why this is so important: our nation is $37 trillion in debt.” He emphasized that cutting spending is a priority for Republicans and highlighted a potential $9 billion reduction.
He mentioned that public broadcasting spending is unnecessary and believes there are better uses for those funds. “Folks back in Kansas are tired of the federal government spending a billion dollars on public broadcasting,” he said.
Marshall also discussed potential consequences if Congress fails to pass the package: “Well, I think that that means that the swamp is still really deep up here, and that Republicans aren’t willing to step forward and do the right thing.”
The senator criticized USAID as a “slush fund” for Democrats and stressed paying down national debt by reallocating funds from wasteful spending.
Regarding President Biden’s comments on interfering with the rescissions package, Marshall remarked on staying off “President Trump’s naughty list,” emphasizing an “America first” approach.
Questions were raised about President Biden’s use of autopen and his health. Senator Marshall challenged Biden’s ability to engage in live interviews due to alleged cognitive decline: “Joe Biden doesn’t know what day it is.”
On doctor-patient confidentiality concerning national security issues, Marshall stated existing laws are adequate but need enforcement: “…I’m ethically bound to protect patient’s privacy, but then being subpoenaed trumps that.”
