U.S. Representative Sharice Davids has used her social media platform to address the impact of the ongoing government shutdown on Kansas’s 3rd district, focusing on small businesses, federal employees, and community organizations.

On October 3, 2025, Davids posted about the challenges facing local businesses: “During a shutdown, small businesses can’t get the loans needed to buy property, purchase equipment, or expand operations. I’m working to reopen the government so #KS03 businesses can keep growing.”

Later that day, she highlighted the effects on federal workers and their families: “Andrea’s husband is a federal employee, and his paycheck is on hold because of the shutdown. Families shouldn’t pay the price for dysfunction — I’m working to get the government open and Kansans paid.”

On October 4, Davids referenced ECKAN (East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp), which provides housing, food, and workforce support across 16 counties in Kansas: “ECKAN — the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp — serves families across 16 Kansas counties with housing, food, & workforce support. They’ve seen firsthand how a government shutdown hurts the folks they work with. “

Sharice Davids has represented Kansas’s 3rd District in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Kevin Yoder. She was born in Frankfurt, West Germany in 1980 and currently resides in Roeland Park. Davids holds a BA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a JD from Cornell University.
