Rep. Sharice Davids, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Kansas’ 3rd district since 2019, addressed key issues on her social media accounts this week, focusing on the impact of a potential government shutdown, support for military personnel, and developments in an international ceasefire.
On October 9, Davids commented on the effects of a government shutdown, stating, “A government shutdown doesn’t just make headlines. It hurts real, hardworking people. I’ve been talking with folks across #KS03 about how it’s affecting them and pushing both sides to get the government back open.”
Later the same day, she shared a personal perspective on military service, referencing her mother’s career in the Army: “My mom served in the Army for 20 years, and I know how much every paycheck matters. That’s why I’m supporting the Pay Our Troops Act because those who serve should always be paid for it, shutdown or not.”
On October 10, Davids responded to international developments, writing, “This ceasefire announcement is a long-overdue and encouraging step forward. Now, the focus must be on achieving a lasting peace in the region — starting with bringing every remaining hostage home and delivering urgent aid to those in need.”
Davids, who succeeded Kevin Yoder in Congress and has served since 2019, was born in Frankfurt, West Germany, in 1980 and resides in Roeland Park. She holds a BA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a JD from Cornell University.
