The 22nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration kicks off with a public viewing of 36 of the best visual arts entries from area students. Now through Dec. 2, the Olathe Indian Creek Library, 16100 W. 135th St., Olathe, will display artwork representing the building finalists from each middle and high school in the Olathe School District. From Dec. 5-9, only the top three pieces in each category (middle and high school) will be available for the public to enjoy.
The theme for this year’s contest — What Affects One Directly, Affects All Indirectly — drew entries from more than 500 secondary students in three categories: written, visual arts and multi-media. Student winners in each category, both at the high school and middle school levels, will be announced during the City of Olathe’s MLK celebration at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at Olathe Northwest High School, 21300 College Boulevard, Olathe. The public is invited to attend the Jan. 15 event.
Partners for this year’s MLK celebration are Olathe Public Schools, Olathe Human Relations Commission, Garmin, MidAmerica Nazarene University, and the Olathe Public Library.
