No. 16 Wildcats Sweep Home Duals Against Wpu and Okwu

No. 16 Baker men's wrestling picked up a pair of dual wins, defeating both William Penn and Oklahoma Wesleyan here Thursday evening inside the Collins Center. The Wildcats took down conference foe WPU, 25-12 before going on to complete the sweep with a 33-12 victory over OKWU.

Against the Statesmen, BU found itself in an early hole with William Penn jumping out to a 9-0 advantage following a forfeit and a decision. The Wildcats responded with four straight wins by decision to take the lead. Included in the winning stretch was a top-15 matchup in the 149-pound match as 15th-ranked Dallas Koelzer defeated 13th-ranked Cameron Hargrove on a 6-4 decision.

After WPU tied the match at 12-12, Baker followed with back-to-back major-decision wins courtesy of Brett Bober (184) and Malachi Karibo (197).

Wrestling at 285 pounds, Roman Bushek slammed the door shut on the Statesmen with a 16-1 tech fall to seal Baker's first victory of the night.

In the nightcap, the Eagles opened up with a 12-0 lead, but, once again, from there it was all Baker. The Wildcats would go on to win out with two pins and two forfeits carrying their team total.

After Koelzer picked up the first pin at 149, Bober made quick work of his opponent at 184 pounds with a pin in the opening seconds of the first period. The Wildcats earned winning decisions from Jonah Muhammad – his second of the night – at 157 pounds and Cael Johnson at 174.

With the victory in hand, Karibo punched above his weight in the 285-pound match as he wrestled a hard-fought bout with OKWU's Dezi Johnson and tacked on another three points for Baker to cap the dual at 33-12 in favor of the Wildcats.

Baker improves to 3-1 in duals this season. They will head to Crete, Neb. for the Doane Open on Saturday, Dec. 3 with the action starting at 9 a.m.
