For the second straight game in 2023, the Johnson County men's basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to pull out a victory. On Sunday, the Cavaliers were down 11 points with 14 minutes to play but managed to fight back to pull out a 68-65 victory to improve to 11-4 on the season.
JCCC took a 58-57 lead with four minutes to play, its first lead since the eight-minute mark of the first half, and never trailed again.
Johnson County sophomore guard Tymer Jackson, the leading scorer in the D-II conference, led the team with 23 points. He was 6-of-19 shooting and 10-of-13 at the line. He also tallied six rebounds and three steals.
Sophomore forward Ryan Gordon recorded his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore guard Seth Chargois posted his second straight game in double figures with 10 points. He also grabbed six boards.
Southeast was led by Denim Johnson with 23 points and Luke Williams with 19 points.
The Cavaliers play their final non-conference game at home again Baker JV on Tuesday, January 10 at 7 p.m., and then open conference play on Saturday, January 14 at Kansas City Kansas. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
