Braves are Defeated by #RV Jamestown, 3-2

The Ottawa University men's volleyball team fell 3-2; 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 13-25, 11-15; to #RV University of Jamestown at Herald Newman Arena on Wednesday night.

How it Happened

•    Ottawa fell behind early in set one, 9-6. OU rallied and after a block by Kayden Kirby and Akeil Williams, the Braves were within 12-11. Jamestown went on a run, extending its lead to 19-12. The Brave answered with eight straight points, taking a 20-19 lead on a Michal Bak service ace. Jamestown scored the next point, tying the set at 20 all. A Jimmie service error gave OU a 21-20 lead. Jamestown tied the game on a kill, 21-21. That is the final point that the Jimmies would score in the set. Ottawa scored the next four points, ending the set on block by Williams, 25-21.

•    A kill by Kadeem Morris gave OU a 6-4 lead in set two. Jamestown scored the next two points, tying the set 6-6. Ottawa pushed its lead to 10-7 after a setting error by the Jimmies. A block by Williams, a kill by Grant Younie, and a Jimmie attacking error gave OU a 20-13 lead. The Braves held Jamestown to only three points for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-16 victory.

•    Jamestown had a 4-1 lead over the Braves at the start of set three. Ottawa rallied and after two kills by Bak, the Braves had a 7-5 lead. Jamestown rallied and took a 9-8 lead over the Braves. A Jimmie service error tied the set at 9-9. The Jimmies scored the next four points, taking a 13-9 lead over OU. The Braves rallied again took a 21-20 lead over Jamestown on a block by Morris and Younie. The Jimmies scored the next two points to retake the lead, 22-21. A Jamestown attacking error tied the set, 22-22. The Jimmies retook the lead, 24-22. Ottawa cut into the deficit on a Jamestown attacking error, 24-23. OU was not able to complete the rally and Jamestown scored the next point to take the 25-23 victory.

•    In set four, Jamestown jumped out to the 4-1 lead over the Braves. The Jimmies extended its lead to 10-3. Ottawa was not able to rebound from its slow start, falling to Jamestown 25-13.

•    The Jimmies had a 9-3 lead over the Braves in set five. Ottawa chipped away at the Jamestown lead. A kill by Williams and block by Bak and Williams put OU within 13-11. The Braves were not able to complete the comeback. Jamestown scored the next two points, taking the set, 15-11.

Inside the Box Score

•    Ottawa finished the match with 43 kills, a .260 attacking percentage, 37 assists, three service aces, 32 digs, and 12 team blocks.

•    Both Akeil Williams and Michal Bak had a double-double. Williams finished with 16 kills and 10 blocks. Bak had 11 kills and a team high 10 digs.

•    Andrew Salinas led OU with 20 assists. Jimmy Flores finished with 16.

Ottawa (6-11, 3-6) hosts no. 14 Dordt University in Wilson Field House on Saturday, March 18. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
