Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. has taken the lead in addressing the broken federal budget process by requesting a member meeting with the Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, John Barrasso (R-WY). In a letter signed by Senator Marshall and fellow GOP Senators Ernst (R-IA), Lee (R-UT), Johnson (R-WI), and R. Scott (R-FL), they aim to discuss much-needed reforms to the budget process.
“Our federal budget process is broken,” stated Senator Marshall. “The cycle of the White House and Congress continually missing their spending deadlines and undermining the budget process has to end. As we approach the 50th anniversary of the Budget Control Act of 1974, it has been made abundantly clear by our historic national debt that we need to fix this process. I look forward to sitting down with my colleagues and putting pen to paper on ways we can rein in our out-of-control spending.”
Senator Marshall emphasizes the importance of working together with his GOP colleagues to implement a more effective system that holds Washington, D.C. accountable for delivering a budget on time and puts an end to irresponsible stop-gap spending measures.
