Washington, D.C. – In a series of intense political maneuvers, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., and Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) faced another setback as Senate Democrats once again blocked efforts for standalone aid to Israel. This marks the sixth time Senator Marshall has been denied by Senate Democrats in his quest for support for Israel.
The call for immediate passage of standalone aid to Israel via unanimous consent on the Senate floor came in response to the recent attacks and bombings on Israel by Iran. Senator Marshall emphasized the importance of standing with Israel in the face of such aggression, echoing sentiments expressed by Democrat Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who stated, "As Israel is under attack from Iran, we stand with Israel and its people."
Despite repeated attempts by Senator Marshall to push for aid to Israel, Democrats have consistently blocked these efforts. Senator Marshall lamented this obstruction, stating, "We’re tired of hearing the pro Israeli lip service while simultaneously blocking every effort to help Israel in its time of need. History will not forget this. Let’s do the right thing."
The recent attacks on Israel by Iran were highlighted by Senator Marshall as a critical moment that demanded swift action in support of Israel. He underscored the urgency by saying, "Now, over the weekend, everybody is now seeing that Israel was attacked this time, by the head of the snake. Iran, not its proxies, but the head of the snake Iran."
Senator Marshall reiterated the importance of solidarity with Israel and urged for the passing of the bipartisan House-aid bill without delay, emphasizing, "A friend in need is a friend indeed. So today, we’re here once again offering an olive branch to pass the bipartisan House passed Israel aid bill that can be signed by the President tonight."
The ongoing political deadlock surrounding aid to Israel reflects a critical divide in the Senate, with Senator Marshall and his allies advocating for immediate support while facing resistance from Democrats. The clash of priorities and values continues to impact crucial decisions regarding foreign aid and diplomatic relations.
