Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., delivered a speech on the Senate Floor calling for the impeachment trial of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Mayorkas, as the Articles of Impeachment were presented to the Senate from the U.S. House. Senator Marshall expressed grave concerns about the current situation at the southern border and urged his colleagues to take action.
Senator Marshall emphasized the importance of upholding oaths and accountability, stating, “Mr. President, on February 2, 2021, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas took an oath... to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic... Mayorkas has broken his oath resulting in this dangerous and deadly invasion of our country.”
Highlighting the severity of the border crisis, Senator Marshall pointed out the alarming number of unvetted individuals entering the country and the risks this poses to national security. He criticized Secretary Mayorkas for failing to address the situation effectively, stating, “Instead of fulfilling his obligation to the American people, Secretary Mayorkas has unraveled our national security, unleashed our border into chaos and launched an unmitigated disaster and culture of lawlessness.”
Senator Marshall called for decisive action, urging his colleagues to take the impeachment trial seriously. He stated, “Enough is enough. Americans deserve better... Let’s bring this to a trial. Let’s debate his record and for the sake of America’s safety and security, let’s impeach Alejandro Mayorkas.”
The call for impeachment comes amidst escalating concerns about border security and immigration policies, with Senator Marshall emphasizing the need for accountability and consequences for those responsible.
