Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. criticized Senate Democrats for their actions regarding the impeachment trial of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In response to the dismissal of the trial by 51 Senate Democrats, Senator Marshall expressed his disappointment, stating, “Today, Senate Democrats chose political expediency over holding a trial for DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.”
Senator Marshall highlighted the implications of the Senate Democrats' decision, particularly in relation to the families affected by the actions of illegal immigrants. He emphasized, “By voting to block Mayorkas’ impeachment trial, Senate Democrats signaled to Laken Riley’s family they do not care that an illegal immigrant murdered her daughter. They are signaling to all the families who lost a loved one to fentanyl poisoning that they do not care about the deadliest drug we have ever seen flooding over our open border and killing 300 Americans a day.”
Furthermore, Senator Marshall criticized the violation of historical precedent by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrats. He asserted, “Senate Democrats have rejected the Constitution and jeopardizes the checks and balances Congress has over the Executive Branch.” Senator Marshall expressed concern over the obstruction of justice and emphasized the importance of allowing both sides to present their cases in a trial.
In conclusion, Senator Marshall warned of the repercussions of the Senate Democrats' decision, stating, “History will not be forgiving of Democrats’ decision to table this hearing; the American people will hold Mayorkas accountable at the ballot box this November.”
