U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. has introduced the Demanding Citizenship in D.C. Elections Act, a legislation aimed at ensuring that only U.S. citizens can vote in municipal elections in the District of Columbia. The bill, cosponsored by Senator Rick Scott and led in the House by Rep. Timmons, comes in response to the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022 allowing noncitizens to vote in D.C.

Senator Marshall expressed his concerns about the current situation, stating, “Joe Biden has erased our borders- undermined our national security, and threatened our sovereignty. The Democrats and the DNC’s takeover of our elections in Washington, D.C., undermines our Democracy, and they do not even try to hide it.” He emphasized the need to prevent illegal migrants from influencing D.C.’s elections, labeling it as election interference.

Highlighting the urgency of the issue, Senator Marshall added, “Make no mistake; Joe Biden sees these 11 million illegal aliens now on U.S. soil as Democrat voters. We the people must fight back; too much is at stake. Our Democracy as we know it is under attack by this administration.”

Senator Rick Scott echoed these sentiments, criticizing President Biden for creating what he called the "worst border security crisis in our nation’s history." He emphasized the importance of free and fair elections, stating, “It is unacceptable for anyone who is not a United States citizen to vote in any election and the Democrat-run District of Columbia is no exception.”

The legislation aims to address the issue of noncitizens voting in D.C. elections, which has raised concerns about election integrity. With Washington, D.C. falling under the jurisdiction of Congress, the bill seeks to establish proof of citizenship as a requirement for participating in municipal elections in the district.

In light of the current situation, where noncitizens can vote in local elections in D.C., Senator Marshall emphasized the need for action, stating, “While this legislation is a great first step, much more needs to be done.”

The introduction of the Demanding Citizenship in D.C. Elections Act reflects the ongoing efforts to safeguard the integrity of elections in the nation’s capital and prevent what Senator Scott described as an attempt to add voters through illegal immigration.
