Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall and Senator Marsha Blackburn have introduced a resolution to recognize October 10 as ‘American Girls in Sports Day.’ Senator Marshall expressed his support, stating, “I am honored to stand alongside Senator Blackburn and defend Title IX from the Biden Administration’s wrath that jeopardizes every woman student athlete’s safety.” Senator Blackburn highlighted the significance of Title IX, saying, “For nearly 50 years, Title IX has represented an American commitment to provide women with equal opportunities in educational programs and activities."

The resolution, co-sponsored by over 20 Republican colleagues, aims to celebrate and support female athletes. Senator Marshall emphasized the importance of gender distinction in sports, stating, “Gender is not fluid- gender is not negotiable; men should never compete in women’s sports; it’s that simple.” He added, “I look forward to celebrating our talented female athletes and supporting their success with this dedication on October 10."

The legislation has garnered endorsements from various individuals and organizations, including Riley Gaines, Sage Steele, Caitlyn Jenner, Concerned Women for America, Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, Family Policy Alliance, Alliance Defending Freedom, and Parents Defending Education Action. The resolution also has additional cosponsors from the Senate, demonstrating bipartisan support for recognizing the achievements of girls and women in sports.

The resolution aims to uphold the principles of Title IX and ensure that female athletes have equal opportunities and recognition in the world of athletics. Senator Blackburn emphasized the importance of celebrating girls and women in sports amidst current challenges to women's athletics, stating, “Now more than ever, it’s important to celebrate girls and women in sports, and I’m glad to champion this resolution in their honor."

The resolution text and related correspondence with the Biden administration regarding changes to Title IX can be accessed for further information.
