U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., joined his Senate GOP colleagues in a press conference to discuss the Biden Administration's stance on aid to Israel. During his remarks, Senator Marshall expressed his concern over what he referred to as President Biden's "schizophrenic national security policy."
"I keep calling Joe Biden’s national security policy his schizophrenic national security policy," said Senator Marshall.
Senator Marshall emphasized the need to focus on actions rather than words, pointing out inconsistencies between statements made by Democrats and their subsequent actions. He quoted Senator Schumer from November 14, saying, "We will not rest until you get all the assistance you need." However, he noted that standalone funding for Israel was tabled several hours later.
"I would ask leader Schumer, where’s his outrage today? If he sits here and says that he would not rest until Israel gets the help they need, where is his outrage today?" questioned Senator Marshall.
The senator also quoted President Biden from an April 17th Wall Street Journal article: "Now is not the time to abandon our friends. The House must pass urgent national security legislation for Ukraine and Israel." Yet, according to Senator Marshall, President Biden has held up aid to Israel with "zero transparency and zero communication to Congress."
Senator Marshall further critiqued President Biden's foreign policy approach. "He says he wants to help Israel, but he’s bowing the knee to a handful of votes in Michigan. He can’t thread this needle. He’s putting political aspirations ahead of sound national security policy," stated Senator Marshall.
In conclusion, Senator Marshall expressed uncertainty about President Biden's position on this issue: "At the end of the day, we don’t know where Joe Biden stands... Does he stand with Israel or does he stand with Hamas?"
