Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., called for unanimous consent to pass two significant bills on the Senate Floor this evening. Senator Marshall, alongside Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), urged the immediate passage of H.R. 2, the Secure Our Borders Act. This legislation, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives over a year ago, aims to secure the border by completing the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, ending catch and release policies, hiring more border patrol agents, and addressing asylum abuse. Senate Democrats blocked this bill from consideration.

Following this rejection, Senator Marshall sought approval for his Demanding Citizenship in D.C. Elections Act. This legislation mandates that only U.S. citizens can vote in municipal elections in the District of Columbia and requires proof of citizenship. Senate Democrats also blocked this bill from moving forward.

Senator Marshall criticized current immigration policies: "Currently, we have 11 million illegal aliens on U.S. soil as Joe Biden continues to double down on the worst border crisis in history." He added that tonight's actions by Senate Democrats indicate a lack of seriousness about border security and national security concerns.

In his remarks on H.R. 2, Senator Marshall stated: “Since day one, Joe Biden’s allowed the cartels to have operational control of our nation’s border, exploiting every weakness and pushing deadly fentanyl into our communities.” He emphasized that national security appears to be an afterthought for the current administration.

Marshall continued: “Now, the Left wants you to believe they have suddenly stumbled upon a solution to the border crisis they created... They have no serious solution.” He expressed concern over safety issues affecting Americans due to what he described as a worsening border crisis under President Biden's administration.

Regarding his Demanding Citizenship in D.C. Elections Act proposal, Marshall highlighted concerns about illegal immigrants voting in local elections: “Right now, we have over 11 million illegal immigrants here on United States soil... Illegal aliens are now voting in local elections at our nation’s capital.”

He concluded by stressing Congress's duty to ensure free and fair elections: “The American people want free and fair elections; they want to trust that their vote won’t be superseded by millions of illegal aliens.”
