U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., has published an op-ed in The Epoch Times, demanding answers from Dr. Anthony Fauci regarding several unresolved questions related to Covid-19. The senator's piece addresses issues including the origins of Covid-19, alleged cover-ups, and claims that Dr. Fauci misled Congress while under oath.

In his op-ed, Senator Marshall writes: “A million Americans died from Covid-19, marking one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history. Four years later, more than 10 million Americans are still suffering from long Covid. We continue to fight for accountability.”

Senator Marshall criticizes Dr. Fauci's role as chief medical adviser to the president, particularly focusing on mask and vaccine mandates, lockdowns, and what he describes as overstated vaccine efficacy. He argues that these measures often disregarded both public opinion and private medical professionals' assessments.

The senator raises concerns about gain-of-function (GOF) research and a potential lab leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. He questions whether Dr. Fauci consulted appropriate government agencies such as the National Biosurveillance Integration Center and the National Center for Medical Intelligence about this risky research or if he relied on private sector scientists with conflicts of interest due to their dependence on his research funds.

Marshall also alleges that Dr. Fauci knew about Chinese military involvement in research at Wuhan laboratories but continued funding projects there with taxpayer money.

Highlighting a significant point of contention, Marshall states: “Dr. Fauci previously testified before Congress that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) wasn’t funding GOF research.” However, according to Marshall, current information suggests otherwise: “Not only has the NIH admitted to funding GOF research, they then changed the definition of GOF research to allow continued foreign research funding.”

Further criticisms include questioning how America benefited from grants to EcoHealth Alliance and other U.S.-funded GOF research conducted abroad after China refused to share critical information following the coronavirus outbreak.

Marshall also calls for accountability within the NIH grant process, noting that EcoHealth Alliance was out of compliance with NIH policies yet continued receiving funding.

He accuses Dr. Fauci of seeking advice from advisers with conflicts of interest who financially benefited from NIH grants overseen by him.

Regarding theories about Covid-19's origins, Marshall questions why Dr. Fauci allegedly manipulated scientific publications to downplay the lab leak theory and pushed a "debunked proximal origins theory narrative."

Lastly, he points out issues related to Freedom of Information Act requests being shut down after Dr. Fauci was questioned by a Senate committee in May 2021 and raises concerns over Dr. Fauci receiving two government salaries simultaneously.
