U.S. Senator Roger Marshall released a statement on the United States Postal Service (USPS) initial audit reports for Shawnee Mission and Kansas City, assessing mail services in the Kansas City metro area.
The audit identified several persistent problems, primarily attributing mail delivery issues to employee shortages and non-compliance with standard operating procedures at the Kansas City Processing and Distribution Center. Similar non-compliance and oversight issues were also found at delivery units, such as Post Office stations, across the Kansas City metro area. These findings have been consistent with previous audits of mail deliveries in the region.
“I hope the USPS will take these findings and implement real solutions to these problems—until this is addressed, our team will continue to sound the alarm,” Senator Marshall stated. “We know the problems now, we need solutions. Kansans deserve consistent and reliable mail services from the USPS, and I will continue to do everything I can to make sure they implement the necessary solutions in a timely manner.”
A second report detailing the solutions being implemented is expected in mid-September.
