U.S. Senator Roger Marshall recently visited New Cambria, Kansas, to meet with Home Communications, a family-owned telephone company serving the eastern half of McPherson County. Accompanied by Mayor Mac Villalpando, the senator discussed the role of local broadband providers in delivering high-speed internet to rural areas. New Cambria, with a population of approximately 100 people, has successfully implemented Fiber To The Home (FTTH) for its residents and businesses. This achievement was facilitated by Mayor Villalpando's outreach efforts.
Senator Marshall is an advocate for the Reconnecting Rural America Act, legislation aimed at supporting local internet providers like Home Communications through low-interest loans and grants to develop rural broadband infrastructure. He emphasized his commitment to expanding high-speed broadband access across Kansas: “Bringing high-speed broadband connectivity to every part of the state is my top priority. I am proud to see companies like Home Communications leadership and their successes in providing high-speed internet to our rural communities,” he stated. The senator highlighted the importance of reliable internet for various sectors including healthcare, agriculture, small businesses, education, and families in rural areas.
