U.S. Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas has collaborated with Senators Katie Britt, Kevin Cramer, and Eric Schmitt to introduce the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act. This proposed legislation aims to enhance access to essential resources during key stages of motherhood, including prenatal care, postpartum support, and early childhood development.

The initiative comes in response to concerning trends in U.S. birth rates. In 2023, the number of births reached its lowest point since 1979, with fertility rates hitting a historic low. These statistics have persisted into the following year.

Senator Marshall, who previously worked as an OB-GYN for over 25 years, emphasized the importance of supporting mothers through their pregnancy and motherhood journey. "As a former OB-GYN who spent over 25 years caring for thousands of women and delivering over 5,000 babies, I understand firsthand the importance of supporting mothers throughout their pregnancy and into motherhood," he stated. "The MOMS Act is critical legislation to ensure we are providing countless women in America the resources they need."

Senator Britt also expressed her commitment to family support through this bill: "The Republican Party is the party of life, the party of parents, and the party of families. At the heart of the MOMS Act is building a comprehensive culture of life to give moms, children, and families the support system they need to thrive and live their American Dream." She further added her personal perspective as a mother facing similar challenges.

In addition to Senators Marshall and Britt, several other senators have co-sponsored this legislation. These include Steve Daines from Montana, Jerry Moran from Kansas, Chuck Grassley from Iowa, Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee, John Cornyn from Texas, James Lankford from Oklahoma, Roger Wicker from Mississippi, Jim Risch from Idaho, Mike Crapo from Idaho, Dave McCormick from Pennsylvania, Pete Ricketts from Nebraska, Jim Justice from West Virginia and Tim Sheehy from Montana.

The MOMS Act has received endorsements from various organizations such as Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and Americans United for Life among others.
