The Edgerton City Council approved the FY2023 budget during their meeting on September 8. The new budget focuses on the City’s essential services including street maintenance, public infrastructure, and public safety.
The new budget lowers the mill rate by more than a quarter of a mill to 29.663. Since 2009, the City Council has lowered the mill levy rate by over 12 mills. Edgerton’s mill levy makes up about 20% of a property owner’s total tax bill.
The new budget includes a 6.3% increase in the cost of the contract for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and one new customer service position, while continuing to maintain core functions with a focus on resident priorities.
Public Input
The creation of the FY 2023 budget always includes many opportunities for public engagement. The process started with the Capital Improvement Plan project list, which is reviewed and approved each October.
Edgerton City Administrator Beth Linn and Finance Director Karen Kindle presented the budget to the City Council during a work session in June. Over the summer, Council Members took feedback from residents and finally held a public hearing on the budget in late August.
The FY2023 budget goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2023.
