Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. addressed the recent detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza on two dairy farms in Kansas in a statement released today.
"My office has been in close contact with USDA, industry stakeholders, and the Kansas Department of Agriculture about confirmed cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza in dairy cattle at two farms in Kansas," Senator Marshall stated.
"I want to relay that from the information we have received there is not a human health concern," he reassured the public, emphasizing the current situation's limited impact on human health.
Senator Marshall highlighted the proactive measures taken by dairy farmers, stating, "Our dairymen work closely with veterinarians to monitor the health of their livestock and to ensure any sick cows are cared for and are not being milked for human consumption."
Furthermore, he pointed out the safety of milk available to consumers, noting, "All milk for sale at local grocery stores has also been pasteurized, which is effective against influenza."
In conclusion, Senator Marshall affirmed his commitment to overseeing the issue closely, stating, "My office will continue to monitor this issue closely."
