Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. did not hold back in his criticism of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during a recent hearing in Washington, D.C. The Senator accused Mayorkas of failing at the southern border and lying under oath to Congress. Marshall expressed concerns about the operational status of the technology used at the border and the admission that Venezuelan migrants are not being returned, contrary to previous testimony.

During the intense questioning, Senator Marshall highlighted the impact of the crisis at the border on law enforcement officers and the prevalence of crimes such as human trafficking and fentanyl trafficking. Marshall directly confronted Secretary Mayorkas on the number of fentanyl-related deaths in the country, as well as the parole of individuals and the release rate of migrants at the border.

In response to questions about the parole of Venezuelans into the country, Secretary Mayorkas denied mass importing individuals and defended the parole program for Venezuelans. The Senator criticized the Secretary for what he perceived as incomplete and misleading answers, stating, "That’s why Americans don’t trust you. That’s why Americans don’t trust the government anymore, is because you’re setting up you’re twisting the truth, giving incomplete answers."

The discussion also touched on the technology used to track 'gotaways' at the border. Senator Marshall pressed Mayorkas on the operational capability of this technology and questioned the Secretary's knowledge of its functionality. The Senator expressed disbelief at Mayorkas's lack of clarity on the issue, stating, "You don’t know much of any of the answers to the questions we’re asking you. This is why we need an impeachment trial. This is why Americans are demanding an impeachment trial."

The exchange between Senator Marshall and Secretary Mayorkas underscored the deep divide and frustration over the handling of border security and immigration issues. The hearing shed light on the ongoing challenges and controversies surrounding the DHS's approach to border control and management.
