Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., appeared on Fox Business's Evening Edit to discuss Senate Democrats' recent border bailout bill. The legislation comes six months before the election and has been criticized by Senator Marshall as an ineffective measure that exacerbates the existing crisis.
Senator Marshall described the bill as "an unserious proposal that only worsens the crisis by codifying catch and release, expanding the abuse of parole, weakening asylum screening, supercharging NGOs, and allowing thousands of migrants to cross before they take any action."
In his interview, Senator Marshall commented on what he believes could be more effective solutions: “What could happen is Joe Biden could secure the border right now. Remember, if he would just go back to Remain in Mexico that would solve the problem. Chuck Schumer also has H.R. 2, the bill that’s passed on the House side that truly secures the border. He’s had that for over a year now. So that’s what I would like to do is pick it up and if there are some things they don’t like in it, then great let’s go through the amendment process. But otherwise what comes next I think is an election in November.”
Senator Marshall further elaborated on his view of the political motivations behind the bill: “This is all political theater. The purpose of this bill today was to give someone like John Tester up in Montana some political cover, so he got to vote today… Their polling has finally gotten bad enough that they’re gonna pretend like they’re serious.”
He concluded with a critical perspective on Democratic intentions: “The Democrats want no real part of any type of thing that’s going to solve this problem. They want the problem; these 11 million people are going to turn into voters for them at least that’s what they think.”
