Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., a member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, appeared on Newsmax's "Wake Up America" to discuss his opposition to Senate Democrats’ border bailout legislation. Additionally, he previewed this weekend’s dedication ceremony where over 600 names of fallen soldiers will be added to the First Infantry Division Monument in Washington, D.C. Senator Marshall will host four Gold Star families for this ceremony.
During the interview, Senator Marshall criticized the border bailout bill and its implications: “Even the Democrat who wrote this bill says the border never closes. That’s what the Democrat says; the border never closes... This was political camouflage for Joe Biden and at-risk senators like John Tester up in Montana.” He argued that the bill did not secure the border but worsened it.
Senator Marshall suggested that reinstating policies such as "Remain in Mexico" could alleviate current issues: “Remember, all Joe Biden has to do is go back and implement Remain in Mexico and the problem is fixed at least for the meantime.” He also pointed out that HR 2, which he referred to as "the true border security act," has been pending before Chuck Schumer for over a year without action.
He further commented on what he perceives as political motivations behind recent actions: “This is all political theater… They’re looking at their polling numbers... Even Joe Biden now suddenly says, ‘oh, my gosh, I’m way behind in all these purple states as well.’”
Regarding concerns about vetting Gazan refugees planned to be brought into the U.S., Senator Marshall expressed skepticism: “Of course not. There’s no way to properly vet those people… It’s not like Gaza has some type of an FBI there that we can call and say, ‘Hey, let’s look at your data bank here and see what these people are doing.’” He criticized President Biden's handling of immigration through parole programs.
On adding over 600 names to the First Infantry Division Monument this weekend, Senator Marshall stated: “The First Infantry Division, Big Red One Monument sits just outside the White House. It has inscribed on it the names of almost 13,000 soldiers from Big Red One that have made the ultimate sacrifice." He noted that since 1995 there had been no updates until now when 631 more names would be added.
Senator Marshall highlighted Memorial Day's significance: “A hundred years ago this year, President Calvin Coolidge dedicated that monument... On Veterans’ Day thank veterans like me... but on Memorial Day remember the people that died to keep us free.”
