U.S. Senator Roger Marshall recently appeared on RFD-TV to discuss his meeting with Brooke Rollins, the nominee for Secretary of Agriculture, and expressed optimism about the future of American agriculture under President Trump's agenda. He also provided updates on efforts to reform the U.S. tax system to better support domestic agriculture producers and emphasized the importance of focusing on farming in the Farm Bill.
During the interview, Senator Marshall shared his thoughts on Rollins' nomination: “I’ve known of Brooke for some time. She’s been very involved in the America First Policy Institute, she worked in the West Wing for President Trump….She’s going to be an incredible Secretary of Agriculture.”
He highlighted a key issue facing American agriculture: affordability and inflationary policies. “Everyone wants America to be healthy again, but we also have to make groceries affordable as well…We cannot have inflationary policies. American agriculture is embracing this precision agriculture. We’re growing more with less."
Marshall discussed tax reforms aimed at benefiting domestic producers rather than foreign entities: “When I sat down with President Trump a week before the election, I pointed out that foreign companies, foreign entities, foreign corporations, China specifically, are benefiting from these tax credits." He emphasized the need for legislative action so "only American companies can benefit from 45Z it’s so important.”
On strengthening farm-related legislation, he noted economic challenges faced by farmers due to high interest rates and input costs: “We have a record drop in net farm income... The average Kansas farm... their interest rate went from two to eight or nine percent.” He stressed that "we need a strong Farm Bill" as a priority.
