U.S. Senators Roger Marshall and Ted Cruz have introduced legislation aimed at repealing the Natural Gas Tax implemented by the Biden Administration as part of the Inflation Reduction Act. The bill is a response to what its proponents see as detrimental effects on American energy independence and economic stability.

Senator Marshall criticized the current administration's energy policies, stating, "The Democrats’ relentless attacks on American energy have killed good paying jobs, ceded power to foreign nations, and caused energy bills to skyrocket." He expressed optimism that changes in leadership would reverse these policies.

Echoing this sentiment, Senator Cruz emphasized the impact of Democratic policies on inflation and national security. "Democratic policies have forced Americans to endure historic inflation and economic pain, and have jeopardized American energy independence," he said. Cruz called for swift legislative action to eliminate what he described as a "crippling tax."

Senator Tuberville joined in support of the repeal effort, accusing the Biden Administration of prioritizing climate activism over practical concerns. "Since day one in office, Joe Biden has waged war on American energy – driving up costs and sending American jobs overseas," Tuberville asserted.

Senator Britt also supported the measure as an essential move towards affordable energy. She stated, "Repealing the Natural Gas Tax is an important step towards ensuring affordable, reliable energy for all."

The proposed legislation has garnered endorsements from several industry organizations including US Oil & Gas Association (USOGA) and American Petroleum Institute (API), among others.

CEO of the American Energy Institute Jason Isaac commented on the broader implications of the repeal: “By removing this burden, we empower American energy producers—the most responsible on the planet—to deliver affordable, reliable energy that fuels economic growth.”

The bill was introduced alongside other Republican senators such as Tim Sheehy from Montana and Eric Schmitt from Missouri.
