U.S. Senator Roger Marshall recently appeared on Newsmax to discuss former President Donald Trump's visit to North Carolina, where he met with victims of Hurricane Helene. The senator criticized the Biden Administration's response, particularly FEMA's efforts, which he described as inadequate in aiding recovery efforts three months after the disaster.
Senator Marshall praised Trump for his compassionate approach and contrasted it with President Biden's handling of the situation. He expressed support for Trump's idea to disband FEMA to reduce bureaucratic hurdles in disaster relief.
During the interview, Marshall highlighted Trump's personal involvement: "What a big contrast between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Here you have a President that’s hands-on, and, like you said, you’re seeing the compassionate side of Donald Trump."
Marshall also addressed FEMA's perceived shortcomings: "Certainly this is what a businessman would do – when you have a situation, a business that’s just upside down... So oftentimes we would just start over."
He suggested reallocating federal funds directly to local levels: "I do think we could take all that money and somehow just pour it into the local levels… certainly the federal government has failed us. Let’s start over."
