U.S. Senator Roger Marshall recently appeared on National Report on Newsmax to discuss a tragic collision involving an American Airlines flight and a military helicopter, resulting in the deaths of 67 people. During his appearance, Senator Marshall expressed gratitude towards President Trump for the administration's transparency and efforts to enhance air traffic control standards. He emphasized the need for accountability to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Senator Marshall highlighted the leadership of DOT Secretary Sean Duffy and DOD Secretary Pete Hegseth. "I just want to thank Secretary Sean Duffy, and Secretary Pete Hegseth as well," he stated. He mentioned his conversation with Secretary Duffy about concerns regarding helicopters operating in busy airspace, urging caution until issues are resolved.
The senator also commended President Trump's swift actions and openness. "I want to thank President Trump for just being radically transparent," he said, noting that previous administrations might not have shared crucial details as openly. He pointed out that air traffic control failures contributed to the incident, emphasizing that helicopters exceeded their altitude limits without proper oversight.
Additionally, Senator Marshall noted President Trump's early initiatives in hiring over 100 air traffic controllers and holding them to high standards. Despite discussing technical challenges like night goggles, he stressed there is no justification for the loss of lives: "There’s no excuse that’s going to bring back my 67 people who perished on that flight."
