U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, representing Kansas, appeared on Newsmax to discuss key topics including President Donald Trump's 'One Big, Beautiful Bill,' the State and Local Tax (SALT) Deduction negotiations, and the newly announced 'Golden Dome' defense system.
During the interview with Shaun Kraisman and Emma Rechenberg, Senator Marshall shared his thoughts on President Trump’s role in advancing legislative negotiations. "I thought about this this weekend during a baseball game. If the House, if this was a baseball game, the House is going into the seventh inning, and we’re going to have to bring our closer in sooner than expected. So, we’re going to bring in Donald Trump," said Marshall. He expressed confidence that Speaker Johnson and President Trump would successfully advance the bill.
Regarding SALT Deduction negotiations, Senator Marshall highlighted divisions within Republican ranks. "If you think about where the big divisions are on this bill, it’s the SALT tax… You have some Republicans from districts that are blue, and they want this SALT tax to go up," he stated. Marshall emphasized concerns over national debt and advocated for alternative uses of funds rather than providing significant tax breaks.
On discussing the 'Golden Dome' defense system announced by President Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Senator Marshall noted its potential strategic advantage against threats like Chinese nuclear warheads. "Well, obviously this would give us a big advantage," he remarked. He likened its significance to historical achievements such as moon landings and supported investment in its development for enhanced national security.
Senator Marshall's interview covered substantial issues currently facing Congress and underscored his perspectives on fiscal responsibility and national defense priorities.
