U.S. Senators Roger Marshall and Rick Scott have introduced the Preserving Access to Patient Reimbursement (PAPR) Act, a bipartisan initiative aimed at ensuring veterans can continue using paper-based systems for travel expense reimbursements related to medical appointments. This legislation comes in response to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' shift towards a fully web-based reimbursement system, which poses challenges for veterans lacking computer access or experience.
Senator Marshall highlighted the need for this measure by stating, "Our nation’s heroes served our country with unwavering honor and dignity, and we need to ensure they receive the support they deserve." He noted that many veterans require assistance with web-based reimbursements and expressed satisfaction in collaborating on this practical solution.
Senator Scott emphasized the importance of easing bureaucratic processes for veterans: "Our veterans are American heroes, who have put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms as Americans... This bill provides a simple fix that makes it easier for our veterans to get their reimbursements."
The PAPR Act is supported by Senators Jim Risch, Mike Rounds, Thom Tillis, Roger Wicker, Angus King, and Gary Peters. In the House of Representatives, Gus Bilirakis and Chris Pappas are leading a companion version of this legislation.
