U.S. Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas has joined forces with Senator Mike Lee of Utah, Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee, and 86 other Republican colleagues to call on U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick to revoke a recent interim final rule by the Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). The rule, known as the "Revision of Firearms License Requirement," imposes restrictions on the exportation of firearms, ammunition, and related components to over 36 countries. It also limits American businesses' ability to secure export licenses.

In a letter addressed to Secretary Lutnick, the lawmakers expressed their concerns: “Congratulations on your recent confirmation as the Secretary of the Department of Commerce. We look forward to working with you on policies that ensure the healthy flow of interstate and international commerce that grows our economy, serves the national interest, and enables American communities to flourish."

They continued by urging action against what they termed a "misguided and destructive IFR" that reportedly costs the American firearms industry nearly $500 million annually without advancing U.S. interests or regional stability.

The letter referenced an executive order signed by President Trump aimed at securing Second Amendment rights. This order instructs Attorney General Pam Bondi to review actions violating these rights or furthering what they describe as an anti-firearms agenda by the Biden administration.

The lawmakers concluded by requesting swift action from Secretary Lutnick's administration: “As you begin work unwinding the numerous ‘America Last’ policies of the Biden administration, we respectfully request that your administration prioritize the expeditious recission of this IFR and restore the lawful commerce of American firearms and ammunition manufacturers.”

The full text of their letter is available for public viewing along with a list of all co-signers.
