U.S. Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas has reintroduced the End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act, a bill aimed at prohibiting federal funding for gender transition procedures. This legislation also seeks to prevent federal healthcare facilities and providers from offering such procedures.
Senator Marshall stated, "After years of radical gender ideology under the Biden Administration, it’s time for a return to common sense." He added that Americans have expressed their opposition to taxpayer dollars being used for gender transition procedures, with surveys indicating significant public support for this stance.
Representative Doug LaMalfa of California will introduce a companion bill in the House of Representatives. He remarked, "Taxpayers should never be forced to fund gender reassignment surgeries and treatments."
The bill is co-sponsored by several Republican senators including Jim Risch, Lindsey Graham, Kevin Cramer, Tim Sheehy, Cynthia Lummis, Mike Lee, Ted Budd, Josh Hawley, Marsha Blackburn, Roger Wicker, Jim Banks, and Cindy Hyde-Smith.
Senator Sheehy commented on the legislation stating that it aims to protect children and taxpayers' money. Senator Wicker emphasized making recent presidential changes permanent by keeping federal funds away from these practices.
Senator Lee argued against using tax dollars for what he described as misguided practices that challenge biological truths. Senator Lummis expressed pride in working towards codifying former President Trump's executive order on this matter.
Other supporters echoed similar sentiments regarding the protection of minors and taxpayers. The bill is backed by organizations like Family Research Council and Alliance Defending Freedom. Matt Sharp from ADF commended the introduction of the act as a step towards protecting vulnerable children from harmful procedures.
