Washington – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas appeared on Newsmax's "The Record with Greta Van Susteren" to discuss the current government funding situation. Senate Democrats are threatening a shutdown, and Senator Marshall stressed the importance of passing a Continuing Resolution (CR) to maintain government operations until September 30, 2025. This would enable congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump's Administration to further their America First Agenda.

During the interview, Senator Marshall pointed fingers at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for the potential shutdown. He stated, "This is the Schumer Shutdown. He controls those votes… We’re working on his budget. It was his responsibility to get this budget done by the end of September last year, and he didn’t do it."

Marshall also highlighted that using a CR would not increase spending compared to last year and might even reduce it by $50 billion. He said, "This will fund the government through the end of the year... And my guess is we’ll actually spend $50 billion less."

The senator emphasized that resolving this issue would allow focus on President Trump's reconciliation plan, which includes border control funding and military presence enhancement. He reiterated that Schumer should have addressed these issues previously: "Chuck Schumer should have taken care of this last September. It was his responsibility."

Marshall discussed future priorities such as budget reconciliation and debt ceiling work. He mentioned efforts to address waste and fraud identified by Elon Musk's team: "I think he’s found $100 billion so far." The goal is to handle these issues with a rescission package requiring fewer votes.
