U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, along with other Republican members of the Kansas federal delegation, has formally requested President Donald Trump to back the state's appeal for a federal disaster declaration. This request is aimed at securing public assistance funding necessary for repairing and rebuilding infrastructure following severe weather events that swept through Kansas in March 2025.

The appeal, also endorsed by U.S. Senator Jerry Moran and U.S. Representatives Tracey Mann, Ron Estes, and Derek Schmidt, highlights the urgent need for federal support after the region was struck by two significant cyclone storm systems between March 14 and 19. According to the National Weather Service, these storms brought extreme winds, blizzards, low humidity, and blowing dust, with pressure readings nearing those of a category 1 hurricane.

Upon approval of the disaster declaration, local authorities and utility providers will be eligible to receive reimbursement from FEMA for storm-related expenses. In a collective letter, the delegation underscored the magnitude of the disaster, which resulted in significant infrastructural damage and loss of life.

"We write today in support of Governor Laura Kelly’s request for a major disaster declaration for the state of Kansas... It is imperative that federal support is provided to allow our communities to recover from the damage," the letter states.

The letter further details the widespread impact of the storms, noting that they affected large portions of the state and caused measurable damage in nearly one-third of its counties. The Kansas delegation emphasized the critical need for federal assistance, estimating over $8.5 million in eligible damage requiring public assistance funds.

The representatives conveyed their anticipation for prompt federal support to aid local governments and utility providers in addressing the aftermath of these natural disasters.

The full text of the letter is accessible for those seeking detailed information on the request and the supporting statements by the Kansas delegation.
