May 1, 2025 - U.S. Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas and Representative Claudia Tenney of New York discussed their proposed legislation, the No Subsidies for Gender Transition Procedures Act, on Newsmax with hosts Marc Lotter and Sharla McBride. This bicameral bill aims to eliminate taxpayer-funded transgender procedures.
The discussion also touched on the budget reconciliation process and the lawmakers' intent to include this legislation in the FY2025 budget to support American values and fulfill former President Trump's commitments.
In the interview, Senator Marshall commented on the fiscal implications: “Look, we can save American taxpayers about $200 million a year by eliminating federal spending on transgender surgeries, transgender medications in Medicare, Medicaid, the military, the VA, and the ACA as well," he stated. Marshall emphasized that passing the reconciliation bill requires only 50 votes instead of the usual 60 in the Senate and reiterated the amount that could be saved.
Regarding efforts to finalize the fiscal package, Marshall expressed optimism in Speaker Mike Johnson: “Well, if anybody can pull it off, it will be our classmate, Speaker Mike Johnson... we have a lot of faith in Mike and the president’s ability to bend arms as well," he remarked. He mentioned agreement on making the Trump tax cuts permanent, funding the military, and addressing the President's border priorities, aiming to finalize these by Memorial Day and potentially deliver the package for presidential approval by July 4.
