U.S. Senator Roger Marshall has announced the nomination of 35 Kansas high school students to military service academies. Out of 45 candidates interviewed, these students were chosen for at least one academy.
“It’s a privilege and an honor to nominate these young men and women to our nation’s esteemed military service academies,” Senator Marshall stated. “As a veteran myself, I commend their commitment to leadership, service, and duty. Their willingness to serve their country is inspiring and represents the best of our next generation.”
The interviews took place at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. The panel included Jeff Mitchell from Public Affairs Eastern KS, Navy; Eric Rohleder from the KS Office of Veteran Services, Air Force; David Dennis, Sedgwick County Commissioner, Air Force; Scott Stuckey, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army; Russell Allen from Lyons High School JROTC and Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, Air Force; Bryant Evans, Sheriff Rice County, Air Force; Bonnie Molz from Senator Marshall's office and Tyler Mason from Military Affairs Representative for Senator Marshall's office.
Among those nominated are Sophia Marien-Brovot for West Point & Naval Academy and Marlena Lewison for West Point & Air Force Academy. Other nominees include Jack Brown for West Point & Merchant Marine Academy and Connor Deady for West Point & Merchant Marine Academy.
Senator Marshall annually nominates students to U.S. Military Academy institutions such as the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy among others. Students who gain admission receive a bachelor's degree followed by a minimum of five years active duty service.
Final acceptance decisions are made after further review by academy staff.
