U.S. Senator Roger Marshall announced the removal of the Midwest Plains proposed transmission line from the U.S. Department of Energy's National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor project. This decision follows months of advocacy by Senator Marshall, who engaged in numerous discussions with affected counties and conveyed their concerns to the DOE.
Senator Marshall stated, "Kansans living in the path of this proposed transmission line corridor spoke loud and clear: they do not want the federal government dictating what happens in their backyard." He emphasized that decisions about construction in Kansas should be made by Kansans, not federal officials. He described the proposal as a potential overreach of federal authority.
The U.S. Department of Energy recently announced a reduction in proposed transmission line corridors from ten to three. The Midwest-Plains Corridor, which was to run from southwest Kansas to Illinois, was removed from consideration. This outcome is attributed to Senator Marshall's efforts and feedback from Kansans to the DOE.
