U.S. Senator Roger Marshall recently participated in a press conference alongside Senators Schmitt (R-MO), Ricketts (R-NE), and Johnson (R-WI). The objective of the conference was to shed light on the alleged misuse of Covid pandemic funds by the current administration, which is reportedly costing taxpayers $13 billion.
Senator Marshall argued that despite the pandemic being over, these funds continue to be exploited. He suggested that this constitutes a breach of law and must be halted.
In his full remarks, Senator Marshall said, “What a great opportunity to start by saving Americans [money] by clawing back $13 billion. I want to drill down and put this into perspective for folks back home. Gas has risen 55%, groceries up 21%, I think it’s a lot more than that. When I go to the grocery store, it feels like 30% and 40%, baby food up 30%.”
He continued by highlighting the impact on school lunches and household expenses: “How about school children’s school lunches up 65%, 65% for school lunches… Electricity up 28%, rent’s up 20%, the average American family or Kansas family is spending $1,000 more a month just for basic necessities: rent, groceries, gasoline, that type of thing. $1,000 a month.”
The senator then accused President Joe Biden of exacerbating the situation through further illegal Covid pandemic spending: “So I’m honored to be here today as I join my colleagues in exposing another way Joe Biden is doubling down and lighting more of your hard earned dollars on fire through illegal Covid pandemic spending. So as far as I’m concerned, this is illegal spending.”
He concluded with an appeal to stop what he referred to as a "$13 billion Joe Biden slush fund". He said: “Folks, the pandemic is over. Thank goodness, thank God, the pandemic is over. It’s been over for years now. We’ve seen different folks back home, you know, trying to use these Covid dollars, they built golf courses and swimming pools, they’re spending them on illegal immigrants, that type of thing – that was not the intent of these dollars. So it’s time to stop this $13 billion Joe Biden slush fund, rein him back in, and just proud again to join Senator Schmitt today to try to claw back $13 billion of Americans’ hard earned money.”
